If this is what the author aimed at, I bow to him for, I too have changed. But this time I had determined to finish it, allowing myself to take it slow so that I can savour every moment though in the end I did savour but I bhhyrappa to gobble it up. A brilliant original take on Mahabharata stripping it completely of its divine elements and holiness of characters. I would recomend this to anyone and it is worth the price.
View all 21 comments. Categorizing this book under fiction category makes unjustifiable. This is not just a novel but an well researched book on the subject. Devdatt tried a little bit to make Mahabharata more humane and tale of people during those ancient times.

It was the time when the preparations of war had just begun. The heart wrenching episode of war is brilliantly imagined and written, which cannot be read in the actual epic.
There is no doubt that the story telling of SLB is awesome. The Mahabharata story is removed from its mythological elements and the whole theme and characters are placed in the historical time of 12th century B.

This novel changed my very perspective of the whole story of Mahabharata, the characters and of course the battle of Kurukshetra.

It gives the reader a different dimension to look at Mahabharata. Emptiness beyond the deepest well had overtaken me too at the end of this fascinating book.
I feel she ;arva the one who suffered the most from the beginning. The vaccum it occupies once you finish those books and the impact it leaves behind is magnificient. Mythology rarely provides an explanation for their characters motivation or offer reasons to their actions.
