Stockwin gives us a good measure of the difficulties from the unique perspective of a pressed sailor, a landsman just as I would have been had I been so unfortunate as Mr. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. This novel was not as good as the later one, but this novel gave me a taste of the nautical life among common seamen.

The book is unusual in that the hero is an ordinary pressed man, not an officer as is most common in nautical fiction. I won’t dock it stars for anything.

Knowing that I was reading something very close to real history stockein made the book more interesting. The earlier books I have read three or four times as when I reach the end of the last book published I simply start the series again… My last reading took me to the end of Tyger. In addition financial ruin beckons.
