This standard stems from the GE model for describing software quality, presented in by McCall et al. The current standard is under review. ISO standards by standard number. This part provides internal metrics for measuring software quality characteristics. Attributes of software that bear on the effort needed for diagnosis of deficiencies or causes of failures, or for identification of parts to be modified.
Attributes of software that bear on the amount of resource used and the duration of such use in performing its function. This part provides the concepts introduced in the original standard ie a recommended quality model which categorizes software quality in six characteristics, which are further sub-divided into subcharacteristics. Ideally, the internal quality determines the external quality and external quality determines quality in use.
This may be done, for example, by specifying target values for quality metrics which evaluates the degree of presence of quality attributes. Attributes of software that bear on the effort needed to install the software in a specified environment. Quality-in-use metrics are only available when the final product is used in real conditions.
